- Polishing Kit
-

A Pinewood Derby is an
appointment an adult keeps with a Child to do something together.
The Polishing Kit does two
things.
First: It is a great
way to spend a little more time with a Child working on a Pinewood
Derby Car!
Second: Polishing the
Wheels, Screws, and the end of the Dowel will definitely make a
Pinewood Derby Car go much FASTER!!!!
The Kit includes:
220 Grit sandpaper; This will
be used for the end of the dowel, and for the little bump on the
wheel where the plastic in injected into the mold. The back of the
sandpaper will be used to apply Graphite* to the end of the dowel.
2000 Grit sandpaper: This is
used to sand the Screws so they are very smooth. Then the Back
of the 2000 Grit sandpaper is used to apply the polish the screws.
The 2000 Grit sandpaper will also be used to smooth the outside of
the Wheels.
A Cardboard buffer is for the
Screws.
Metal Polish: A ¼ oz. jar of
Metal Polish. This is enough polish to do as many as 60 screws
[that’s 15 Cars]**.
Plastic Polish: A ¼ oz. jar
of a special Water Based Polish. This polish is the type that is
used on jet aircraft windshields. It does not leave any residue on
the wheel.
One, 12” piece of pipe
cleaner, to be used for polishing the inside of the Wheels.
A solid brass counter sink
for the Wheels.
The Polishing Kit
instructions include information on Wheel Alignment! Weight
Placement!! And Aerodynamics!!!
* You may want to get the Jar
of Graphite to go along with the Polishing Kit.
** Why enough for 15 Cars?
If you are working with a
group of Children, the Polishing Kit can be shared.
If you are working on one
Pinewood Derby Car, you will probably have another Derby next year
and possibly the year after that too!
